The primary objectives of the WKU Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (i.e., the Chem Club) are to afford an opportunity for its members to become better acquainted, to secure the intellectual stimulation that arises from professional association, to foster a professional spirit among the members, to instill a professional pride in the chemical sciences, and to foster an awareness of the responsibilities and challenges of the modern chemist.
Chem Club members expand their professional networking skills with visiting academics and at professional research conferences, such as the Kentucky Academy of Science, Posters‐at‐the‐Capitol, Western Kentucky University's Undergraduate Research Conference, and regional/national meetings of the American Chemical Society.
Members also benefit from being involved within the WKU Department of Chemistry and getting to know the faculty outside of the classroom setting, which encourages informal conversations about future research endeavors and post‐baccalaureate plans.
Chem club is also engaged in various service activities that further the excitement of chemistry in the local community.
