The Head Start & Early Head Start Home-Based Pre-Institute allows you to choose from two concurrent pre-sessions that provide a chance to spend a full day on one topic:

Session One: Home-Based Services: An Introduction/Orientation and Review is a comprehensive, intensive orientation to the home-based program option that will be of benefit for all new home visitors and to home visitors who would like a review or refresher course.

Learning Objectives of Session One:

  • Participants will be introduced to and review the requirements for operating a Head Start or Early Head Start program using the home-based option.
  • Participants will review the Head Start Program Performance Standards and discuss techniques and strategies to implement the standards in Home-Based Head Start and Early Head Start.
  • Participants will receive information and materials about approaches and techniques in working with home-based families.
  • Explore how the services provided to expectant families impacts school readiness.

Session Two, Ensuring Quality Programming for Expectant Families in EHS will provide an in-depth look at methods and techniques in working with pregnant mothers and the rest of their Head Start family.

Learning Objectives of Session Two:

  • Participants will be introduced to and review the requirements for operating a program for expectant families.
  • Participants will review the Head Start Program Performance Standards and discuss techniques and strategies to implement the standards in a program for expectant families.
  • Participants will receive information and materials about approaches and techniques in working with pregnant mothers and their families.
  • Participants will explore how the services provided to expectant families impacts school readiness.
