Leadership Light Series

At AKA our classes, workshops and other deliverables have been formatted based on what we hear from our current and past clients by our experienced experts, each having worked in Industry before coming to AKA.  One common thread in the feedback that we have received is a desire to send new managers to Leadership training, but in smaller blocks of time.  This allows for less time away from the demands of production.   From that feedback, we developed our “Light” series in Leadership Development.

“Light Bulb Graphic

This series is delivered in a series of three 4 hour blocks.  Each one of these 3 blocks includes an intrinsic survey to allow the participant to look within themselves for self-improvement as well as improved results with leading teams, communicating with others, and coaching their direct reports.

Effective Teams

Organizations that encourage and support the use of teams as an integral part of the workforce, develop solutions that are more creative and innovative, use resources more efficiently, improve their ability to implement change, have employees who are more committed to their work, and experience higher employee morale. Leading Teams is the first in a 3 part series that is designed to increase employees' skills and success at leading teams.  It teaches participants to be more effective team leaders of ongoing work teams, continuous-improvement teams and/or project teams.

Upon completion of the “Leading Teams” training block, participants will understand the characteristics of a team, know their own team player style (both strengths and weaknesses), understand what makes teams function, be able to apply the methods of team decision-making, and understand how to help teams move through the stages of development.

Effective Communication

The complexity of the manufacturing environment, workforce diversity, advancements in technology, and a changing business climate are all contributors to the communications challenges experienced by many workers today. Effective Communication is an interactiveWorkshop.  This training block is designed to help participants improve their ability to communicate effectively by teaching them to be more active listeners, to deliver both positive and negative feedback, and to manage conflict constructively.

Upon completion of the “Effective Communication” training block, participants will understand how to communicate more successfully, know how to employ the techniques of active listening, appreciate the importance of nonverbal communication, be better able to deliver both positive and negative feedback, and deliver rewards and recognition in a more effective manner.

Leader as Coach

The third training block within the “Leadership Light Series” is “Leader as Coach”.  One of the key responsibilities of a team leader is to help employees achieve their job objectives. And, in order to accomplish this, team leaders must be skillful coaches. Coaching is a technique used by leaders to give on-going guidance, instruction, feedback, and support to employees.

Upon completion of the “Leader as Coach” training block, participants will understand their role as coaches, be able to recognize coaching opportunities, know an effective process for coaching employees, be able to analyze performance issues through effective questioning techniques and understand how to handle defensiveness and deal with bad ideas.
