What is the one thing that Head Start and Early Head Start staff ALL have in common? You guessed it – CHANGE!!! The pandemic has forced us all to adapt to a new normal. With that in mind, Training & Technical Assistance (T/TAS) at WKU is offering the popular Finding the Keys to ERSEA in a Virtual Edition. No travel. No large groups. No anxiety. We prioritize your health and safety without sacrificing substance.

Finding the Keys to ERSEA Virtual Edition will take place July 6-10, 2020 in 2 ½ hour time blocks. Training will cover the fundamentals of the key areas of Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment and Attendance. Discussions in each area will cover necessary considerations of implementing a program that meets community needs and serves the neediest families. If you have questions about serving homeless families, enrolling families from the 101 to 130 percent of the poverty guidelines, or attendance as a predictor of school readiness, register for this training! This event will also explore how selection criteria and recruitment practices impact enrollment. Emphasis will be given to approaching recruitment in the COVID-19 era.

Finding the Keys to ERSEA Virtual Edition is designed to help staff identify relevant federal regulations, rules, directives and best practice, as well as comply with the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007 and the Head Start Program Performance Standards. Staff who are new to their role in ERSEA, as well as seasoned staff seeking a refresher in the fundamentals, will benefit most from this training. (Head Start and Early Head Start Managers, Coordinators, Directors, and Family Services staff.) Finding the Keys to ERSEA is a prerequisite for the T/TAS event ERSEA: A Deeper Dive, designed for experienced ERSEA staff.

The Finding the Keys to ERSEA Virtual Edition presenters will train using live webinar sessions, therefore you must have access to a computer or mobile device with internet service and have access to speakers or a headset. Participants will be able to download a PDF version of the Finding the Keys to ERSEA workbook that supports the training and includes relevant regulations and other useful resources.

Come join us! We Are Here for You. Seating is limited and registration is only available until June 30th.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will increase their knowledge of ERSEA;
  • Participants will expand their understanding of the practical application of the Head Start Program Performance Standards: Subpart A – Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment and Attendance;
  • Participants will develop an understanding of the relationship of the Community Needs Assessment and ERSEA; and
  • Participants will enhance their understanding of how ERSEA impacts all services with emphasis on attendance as an indicator of school readiness.
