Why philosophy?
Engaging in philosophy has been shown in multiple studies to have many benefits, such as:
- boosting scores in other subjects like math and English
- high job security - 95% of philosophy majors are employed and making $35,000 or more within 6 months of graduating
- long-term earning power - philosophers earn more over their career than all other humanities majors
- great net return on investment - the net return on philosophy (the earnings of philosophers minus the cost of getting the degree) is as good as the net return of engineering and health science majors
Just as importantly, philosophy is fun! Engaging in philosophy cultivates skilled argumentation, passion for bettering society, a deepened senses of humanity, an intellectual humility that lets us admit when we are wrong, and an open-minded curiosity about everything there is to know.
