Early Head Start BITES is a series dedicated to learning the appropriate practices in engaging infants and toddlers while guiding and understanding the behaviors of infants and toddlers. The event will provide 10 clock hours of training that will be beneficial for Early Head Start teaching staff, family child care staff, home visitors, center managers, and anyone else interested in understanding how to appropriately engage and guide children’s behavior in Early Head Start.

Wednesday, January 10, 12:00-2:00 PM CST, Session 1: Behaviors – The first session of the series is dedicated to understanding the behaviors of infants and toddlers and thinking about why they behave the way that they do. This session will also review the Early Head Start regulatory requirements related to behavior management.

Wednesday, January 17, 12:00-2:00 PM CST, Session 2: Interactions – This session discusses using interactions to engage children and encourage positive approaches in guiding behaviors and maintaining appropriate interactions in Early Head Start.

Wednesday, January 24, 12:00-2:00 PM CST, Session 3: Transitions & Temperaments – This session will define the three different types of transitions that Early Head Start staff work through regularly. Daily transitions are an important key for setting the tone for daily routines and encouraging appropriate behaviors.

Wednesday, January 31, 12:00-2:00 PM CST, Session 4: Environments – The actual learning environments, both indoors and outdoors, impact how children act and interact. This session will focus on the environment, how environments are arranged, the materials and equipment available, and how the environment impacts behaviors.

Wednesday, February 7, 12:00-2:00 PM CST, Session 5: School Readiness – This session will be the last of our series. We will take this time to discuss the social and emotional outcomes that are expected for Early Head Start children and how to ensure appropriate practices while encouraging school readiness.
