According to the Office of Head Start, programs should not have to prepare for reviews. T/TAS believes programs should take a different approach. In 1996, T/TAS at WKU was the first to design and present the latest information on the Head Start/Early Head Start federal monitoring review process. Over two decades later, T/TAS is still providing this service. Preparing for an Onsite Review is nationally recognized as the premier source for programs searching for the best way to support all facets of review preparedness. Preparing for an Onsite Review: Focus Area 1 is designed to assist programs in their efforts to find concise, planned answers ahead of their federal review.

To maximize the information shared and to explain the uniqueness of each grantee, T/TAS believes that preparation for a federal review is a prudent activity. Since the reviewers will only have the information that has been provided to them by the funding source, it is important to first, know who needs to identify and share the information, and second, know how others in the program may build on it as a practical approach to the provision of program information.

Preparing for an Onsite Review: Focus Area 1 is a must for any agency that has an upcoming Focus Area 1 (FA-1) review, a new grantee that will have an initial onsite review, or any agency that wants to stay current on OHS review emphases to strengthen management systems. The workshop is designed to assist programs in doing two important steps: 1) preparing cognizant answers to review questions with constrained time limits, and 2) documentation of responses and follow-up questions in preparation for Focus Area 2 (FA-2) interviews.

This seminar will be in two phases. Phase One will contain pre-recorded sessions that will provide an overview of the focus area instrument and process. In addition, you will receive a worksheet you can use to prepare your staff for the review. Phase Two will be a 3-hour live Zoom training session.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will dissect the federal review process, including the latest monitoring protocol and the role of additional requirements.
  • Participants will identify changing emphases since the last review cycle, including any addendums.
  • Participants will review each section of the latest monitoring instrument and discuss the information and materials that should be prepared and available for the review team.
  • Participants will discuss lessons learned from the last federal review period and issues identified for designation renewal.
  • Participants will receive materials that support the protocol.
